18 May 2025Emigration Day — A Memory of Pain and Pride
October 17, 1961 — Tribute to Algerian martyrs abroad
On this day, October 17, 1961, peaceful demonstrations took place in the heart of Paris, led by free Algerians in exile, demanding their legitimate right to independence after a racist and unjust curfew was imposed upon them.
Despite being far from home, their hearts remained bound to proud Algeria. The French police, however, met their peaceful protest with brutal repression, causing a tragic massacre — many were killed, and others were thrown into the River Seine, their blood forever marking the memory of that dark night.
Today, on this same date in 2025, we bow our heads in remembrance of their pure souls and honor their eternal sacrifices for freedom and national dignity.
A minute of silence was observed in tribute to the victims of the October 17, 1961 massacres, to perpetuate their memory and strengthen the sense of national belonging.
May God grant mercy to our martyrs and welcome them into His vast paradise.
Glory to our eternal martyrs — long live Algeria, proud and free forever.
